Water Mission – Disaster Relief Update

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.” – Psalm 28:7

While the storm has passed, the real work of recovery has just begun.

In preparing for Hurricane Dorian and in the immediate aftermath, Water Mission has been serving on the ground. In connecting with a variety of partners, collaboration was key to find the fastest and safest ways to provide aid to the islands.

Water Mission responded immediately to the needs in Green Turtle Cay, Marsh Harbour, and Elbow Cay, as reports at the time estimated that 90% of homes were destroyed and 10% were severely damaged.

While the disaster’s impact has been heartbreaking, the resiliency of the residents has been extraordinary.  Recognized by the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas for their incredible work, as well as partnering with a variety of agencies, the disaster relief team is still working together to distribute food, water, and supplies in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.

How can you continue to partner as disaster response continues?

  • Pray With Us – please continue to lift up the impacted areas in prayer, as well as the teams responding.  Please also continue to pray for the partnership efforts of so many different agencies.  Prayer is not an after-thought, but our primary action step:  Prayer Partner Updates.
  • Financial Partners – Praise the Lord, we received a generous $75,000 match to kick off the relief effort! Thanks to our generous partner, Foster Friess, who continues to match all gifts to support these relief efforts, up to $1 million.  For additional information, please visit: Financial Partners.
  • Volunteer – Water Mission is currently seeking volunteers who are available to be on standby to serve in the Bahamas for three-to-four-week assignments. We welcome all skill sets but are specifically seeking volunteers that have a background in construction, logistics, engineering, electrical, water treatment, or general maintenance. If you are interested in volunteering over the next few months, please complete the application on our website: Disaster Relief Volunteer.

Thank you for your continued partnership in mission and ministry.  It is a true joy to partner with the NALC for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
