As it is written in Psalm 107:2: “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story, those he has redeemed from the foe.” It is through each of us telling the story of what Jesus Christ has done for us through his death and resurrection that changes everything. In John 4, we read how the Samaritan woman shared the story of what Jesus had said and done, and because of her testimony – the whole village believed. Whether it is through countless other examples of stories in Scripture, or the same phenomenon we see occurring in our world today with friends, family, and even strangers – God calls us to tell our stories. When we begin to tell our stories, we realize they are not really “ours” but “his.” Through telling these stories – the body of Christ is built up, strengthened in faith, and knit together. Update about the DRC and the Confessional Lutheran Church
During the month of August, the condition of the country was in bad shape as they experienced multiple situations of unrest, robbery, kidnapping, and killing. One of the Lutheran pastor’s houses was stormed by insurgents and the entire household was killed. Some church leaders suffered the same consequence on the center-eastern side of the country.
The church opened its doors for worship on August 23, 2020, and the majority of members came back after a long break due to Coronavirus. The church lost few members during the pandemic, but pastors praised God. As doors are open for worship, they are also conducting door-to-door visits for discipleship.

In February, just prior to the start of the COVID-19 crisis in the USA, together with Rev. Dr. Gemechis Buba, we traveled to Dubai. Pastor Jones represented the NALC Executive Council. Pastor Berthelsen represented Hope Lutheran Church (Cedar Hill, TX), who serves as both a prayer sponsor and a fiscal agent for Pastor Martha Shanka, a new global worker for the NALC. In January 2020, the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) received William as a Global Worker through the World Mission Prayer League. William continues with his role in overseeing WMPL missionaries assigned to Africa, while also serving the NALC in building, forging, nurturing, and promoting her growing partnerships in Africa, and specifically serving on the ground in Kenya. Margaret now serves as a missionary in leadership training and support for the diaconal ministry of the Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church, with a focus on teaching and capacity-building for God’s mission in Africa. She also collaborates with other Prayer League co-workers in Africa. For these reasons, William and Margaret are grateful for the opportunity to use their God-given gifts to give back to the church in Africa and overseas. Please pray that the Lord might raise more workers for Africa in many areas: witness, teaching, and leadership development.
