Mission Update – Iglesia Luterana la Transfiguración

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20

Since January, unfortunately, our Sunday services have been moved twice. This scenario negatively affected our attendance, but we have done a lot of outreach activities, including quinceañera celebrations in difference parts of Dallas county. We are worshiping in a brand-new funeral home. We have our worship service Sundays at 10am. At the same time, we have a children’s program and youth group. We are blessed with two great Sunday school teachers. One is an honors teacher from the Arlington School District and the other is a teen counselor from the Dallas School District. Our children love them.

The owner of the funeral home is a great person and a good friend of the congregation. He lets us hold different activities in the chapel in addition to worship. Sometimes we hold prayer services, Baptisms, first Communion, confirmation, weddings, quinceañeras, and pastoral counseling. But, many people prefer to hold social events at a hotel or venue rather than the funeral home.

Your financial support helps us carry out different ministries in the area. We often hold house church worship services. On Saturdays, I officiate Baptisms, first Communion, confirmation, weddings, prayer groups and sometimes quinceañera celebrations. Every Saturday I go to a hotel ballroom for a quinceañera or wedding. You will see some pictures that affirm what I am doing outside the chapel.

Right now, we are developing a small business to bring in some income for my family. Please pray for me and for the ministry of Transfiguration Lutheran Church.

I believe God is blessing, and the Holy Spirit is guiding, me to do his ministry. I am preaching the Gospel to people of God who are discriminated against and voiceless. I ask God for mercy and wisdom to help them.

Blessings,

Pastor Pedro Portillo
