Ministering in Samaria: How Our Young People Can Change the Church if We Let Them

According to numerous national surveys, millennials are leaving or disengaging the church at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, many are not coming back (even after having children). Pastor Lackey’s presentation in Nashville will help you better understand what millennials are like, while offering both theological and practical strategies needed to engage them. We will glean wisdom from the church fathers to find a way forward.

 

Pastor Russell Lackey has been the Senior Campus Pastor at Grand View University in Des Moines, IA, since spring of 2012. As Campus Pastor, he is responsible for organizing the university’s chapel program, mentoring student ministry leaders, and encouraging every person in the Grand View community with the love of Christ. In addition, Russ is the Senior Pastor at Luther Memorial Church in Des Moines. Russ served Reformation Lutheran Church (NALC) in Westminster, CA, from 2001 until his appointment to Grand View. Russ has worked in youth ministry as a youth director, camp counselor, confirmation teacher, and resident assistant. He has also spoken at numerous mission, evangelism, and youth conferences. A recently award from the

Lilly Endowment has also allowed for the creation of the Nexus Institute for Theology and Leadership in Ministry (The NEXUS Institute). Russ earned his bachelor’s degree from Westmont College in 1997 and his masters of divinity from Luther Seminary in 2001. He is currently a doctoral student at Duke Divinity. He and his wife, Jamie, have three daughters: Abby, Sydney, and Brenna.
