As it is written in Psalm 107:2: “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story, those he has redeemed from the foe.” It is through each of us telling the story of what Jesus Christ has done for us through his death and resurrection that changes everything. In John 4, we read how the Samaritan woman shared the story of what Jesus had said and done, and because of her testimony – the whole village believed. Whether it is through countless other examples of stories in Scripture, or the same phenomenon we see occurring in our world today with friends, family, and even strangers – God calls us to tell our stories. When we begin to tell our stories, we realize they are not really “ours” but “his.” Through telling these stories – the body of Christ is built up, strengthened in faith, and knit together. Bible Study Resource

Prayer. It’s our opportunity to communicate with the living God. Whether this communication is done by speaking, listening, writing, drawing, focusing on Holy Scripture or just being open to the Lord’s presence, it’s a gift that can be done at any time or any place. God’s Word tells us that Jesus frequently went off to a quiet place to pray. When the disciples asked Jesus about prayer, he taught them the foundation of the Lord’s Prayer. Even Martin Luther taught his own barber, Peter, a simple way to pray.

Field Report From India

The results are in. After six weeks of rolling elections across India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won his reelection by a landslide. Modi will rule for another five years under the BJP Party (Bharatiya Janata Party), which has strong affiliations with a Hindu extremist group called the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh).

Belief In The Power of Hope

When it comes to overcoming challenges, Helen Keller (1880-1968) set the bar quite high. She was a lifelong learner, teacher, inspiration. She danced, laughed, wrote, and loved. She was deaf, blind, and had great difficulty speaking.

And, she changed the world and the way we view the potential of those with special needs. Her teacher and best friend, Anne Sullivan, who was herself blind and parentless, instilled a sense of hope in the young Helen. Anne had a persistent hope that guided Helen into her future.

Helen said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.”

Reading The Word of God – Service Provider Update

Reading the Word of God, a daily Bible reading guide, has been prepared for Lutherans to use over the next three years. The reading guide was conceived and prepared as a result of ongoing discussions between representatives of the NALC, the Lutheran Church— Canada (LCC), and the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).

The reading guide includes monthly calendars with daily readings starting in January 2018 and continuing until December 2020.  As a companion to the daily Bible reading guide, 52 suggested readings — one for each week of the year — are offered from the book, Luther and the Scriptures by Johann Michael Reu (1869–1943).

Lutheran Week – Plant, Grow, Bloom: New Starts in the NALC

The NALC is committed to the renewal of all our congregations, working to develop and deliver resources that challenge and open the NALC to the work of the Holy Spirit in our ministry and mission.  During Lutheran Week in Indianapolis, the Mission Festival is designed to inspire and serve as a resource to congregations. This includes specific “break out” sessions on a variety of topics.  Pastor Brad Hales and Pastor Tom Hilpert are excited to present the topic: “Plant, Grow, Bloom: New Starts in the NALC.”
